Dr. Anna Lührmann

Biography

Dr. Anna Lührmann has dedicated her career to politics, democracy, and global governance. Serving as a Member of the German Bundestag from 2002 to 2009, she pursued studies in Politics and Organization at FernUniversität Hagen and earned a Master’s degree in Gender and Peace Studies at Ahfad University, Sudan.

 

From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Lührmann contributed to UNDP, providing electoral and parliamentary consultation in Sudan. Her academic journey included a second Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Politics at Humboldt-Universität Berlin (2011-2015). Subsequently, she conducted postdoctoral studies at the Varieties of Democracy Institute in Sweden (2015-2018) and served as Deputy Director (2018-2020) and Junior Professor (2018-2021) at the University of Gothenburg.

 

Returning to the German Bundestag in 2021, Dr. Lührmann assumed the role of Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office on December 8, 2021. Her leadership shapes diplomatic initiatives, emphasizing democratic values and sustainable global governance.
