The power of global trade: Market dynamics and economic opportunities in climate change mitigation goods

15:30 – 16:30(Istanbul, UTC+3)

Delivering on climate mitigation pathways requires more than investment in climate technologies. It also depends on how quickly and reliably climate-friendly goods can be produced, traded and deployed across borders.

The session will feature the presentation of a new policy paper that studies green trade flows with a focus on climate protection goods to better understand how trade can support mitigation delivery. The analysis describes current market structure and dynamics using different indicators including market shares, competitiveness, concentration and dependencies.

The paper finds that global trade of climate protection goods can be a critical enabler — but also a potential source of risk when competitiveness vulnerabilities, concentration-driven dependencies, or standards-related access barriers are ignored. Based on these insights, the study maps out how to use global trade to accelerate decarbonization while simultaneously safeguarding economic competitiveness and supply chain security.
